    For instance?

Are you accessing your email via the account's webmail page (e.g., http://mail.live.com) or in a Mail Client (e.g., Outlook; Windows Live Mail)?

What about email attachments.  Some open and some do not.  These are NOT open office.

Well, an ODS file is an Open Office file so I suspect you'll have to install Open Office before you'll be able to open ODS files & attachments.
