Windows installer error 1335. cabinet file / archive is corrupted

I keep getting Windows installer error 1335 EVERY time I try to run setup from virtual media!!

There are many games that I can't install and it's breaking my heart.

Also I get blue screens / restarts on occasion.

I did some reading into the subject and it appears to be a RAM issue.

I just need to be sure before I buy a second 2GB chip. Is my current RAM damaged?? How do I diagnose that??

Also am I supposed to replace my RAM or keep it and work with a total of 4GB??

    Hi,

    Do you have an

anti-virus software installed on your computer?

I suggest that you follow the below steps and check.

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

         msiexec /unregister

         msiexec /regserver

    1. Now try to run the setup file.

You may also try copying the file to the hard drive and then running the setup file in clean boot mode. Check if the issue persists.

    Clean Boot Troubleshooting:

    1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

        User Account Control permission.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the

        password, Or click Continue.

    1. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
    2. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup items check box.
    3. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
    4. Click OK.
    5. When you are prompted, click Restart.
    6. After the computer starts, check whether the problem is resolved.

If the issue is resolved check which third party program is causing the problem, referring the link given below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual.

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

    Thanks and Regards:

I'm on windows7 here by the way.

I did the command prompt thing and the clean boot too.

Nothing worked. I tried three different CD DVD images of three different games I have here. They keep failing the same way as before.

data error occurred, ...archive is corrupt, ....installer error 1335, etc etc...

Could it be my RAM? Is memory damage sometimes responsible for that kind of thing?

    total-eclipse-demon,

You can run the Windows Memory Diagnostic if you think you may have a problem with your RAM.  It would be a good place to start.  If your memory comes back with any errors then you should replace it.  If it doesn't show any errors and you are wanting to up the total, then you can keep the current and add to it.  Just verify that you get the same specs on the new RAM.  If possible get the same brand.

Also you may want to run the Disk Error Check on your drive and verify that you have plenty of free space.  You can copy the contents of the game CD to a folder on your drive and then try the install from there.

Here is an article that discusses that error and some possible solutions.
