Error with Battlefield 1942 starting in Windows 7

Battlefield 1942 and all of the patches and mods loaded with no problems.  When trying to start the program, my screen flashes a couple of times and then comes back to the desktop.   It does not show any errors.  Can anyone help explain this.  It ran fine on Windows XP-64 which I had previously.

    MOW_Snowman,

From what I could find about this game, it is compatible with Windows XP and previous versions.  If you have not tried the Windows 7 XP Mode then you may want to install that and then try running the game within XP Mode.

If that doesn't work you may want to check with EA tech support and see if they have an update for the game.

    Hi MOW_Snowman,

This might be driver issues. Check the latest driver for your Video Card and DirectX graphics card.

Step 1: To identify your Video Card and driver version:

    1. Click on the Start and type dxdiag in the field provided.
    2. Select dxdiag.exe from the program list.

This opens DirectX Diagnostic Tool loads.

    1. Go to display tab.
    2. Your video card name and manufacturer name will be listed in the Device section.
    3. The version of the driver you have installed should be listed under the Driver box next to the word Version.
    4. Visit the manufacturer’s website to download the latest driver for the same.

Keeping your DirectX up-to-date helps eliminate conflicts, as well as helping your games run as well as possible.

**Step 2:**To identify your DirectX version:

    1.    Follow the steps 1 and 2 from the above section.

    2.    At the bottom of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, you should see the following field: DirectX Version: which will list what version you are currently running.

Check http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/aboutGFW/pages/directx.aspx for the latest version of DirectX and update if necessary.

If this still doesn’t work, go to step 3.

**Step 3:**You may try to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the Video Card.

Follow the instructions below to do so:

Here are the steps to uninstall the display drivers from Device Manager:

    1)       Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.‌

    2)       If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3)       On the Device Manager window, look for the Display adapter and let us know if you see any yellow exclamation mark in front of the Device.

    4)       Right click on the Device and select Uninstall.

    5)       Re-install the latest driver which you downloaded in the first step from the Manufacturer’s website.

    This should help.

I tried to just attach the dxdiag file but I could not see how.

As I said,  When i select the game, the screen falshes a couple of times, a box appears to open for just a quick second but too fast to see what it says and then back to desktop.

Is there anything else to try?

    Thank You

THe game installed with no problems.  When starting the program, the monitor flashes a couple of times them comes back to the desktop.  Call of Duty 4 and WaW all work fine.  I have tried running as administrator and also the different compatibility modes with no luck.  It ran fine on this computer previously with Windows XP-64.  Does anyone have any ideas?
