Type this "Compress and uncompress files (zip files)" in the Help and Support program's Search Box.  It will give you details like these.

"Right-click the file or folder you want to zip (compress), point to Send to, and then click Compressed (zipped) folder.

    • To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location.
    • To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions".

This doesn't tell us WHERE on the computer the program is.  I want to put it as the default program when I right-click on a zip file and select "OPEN WITH"  I would also like to open the program directly if possible.

"So what is the program called and where is the program located?"  The above answer doesn't really answer the original question.  Can't find it in any search.

What is the file extension of this zipped file, it might not be a .zip, or something Windows knows about?

It may be necessary to show Both Hidden and System Files, and also to uncheck "Hide known file types" in Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View, to navigate to , or see files and extensions.

What Association do you have set for .zip in here?

I think this process is handled via zipfldr.dll in Windows.

zipfldr.dll is a dll not an .exe file, so you might have problems opening it manually as a .dll can only be opened via programmable instructions.

What program (if not the built-in one) are you using to zip or unzip files.  If you are using the built-in program then Windows should do it all for you when your right-click and Send to a Compressed (zipped) folder, or when you click on any such compressed folder to extract files.

This is a Vista posting but the information applies to Windows 7 too.
