Dell mouse does not scroll

The wheel on my Dell mouse does not scroll... when I move it up and down, nothing happens on the screen; this happens all of a sudden but intermitantly.  It will work fine and then oops it won't scroll and then oops it is working again... either will go on for days at a time!  It is so frustrating...

And I don't know if this is related or not... some of my keyboard keys, also intermitantly, get stuck.  For example, I will be typing away and often when I click the letter T, a new tab will open up... this should only happen if I click 'control and T together.   Just in writing this short note, a new tab has openned 5 times, each time when I keyed in the letter T!

I have other letters that are problematic in the same way.

All help is welcome!

    Hi ,

    • Have you made any hardware or software changes on the computer?
    • Does it happen while using any particular application?
    • Do you have a laptop or desktop?

I would first suggest you to try to boot into safe mode and check if the keyboard and mouse is working fine.  Safe mode will start Windows 7 with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed, follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:

    i. Restart the computer

    ii. Start tapping F8 key.

iii. You will get advanced boot option window.

iv. Select the option “Safe mode”.

Start your computer in safe mode

     http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Also, change the motion of mouse from control panel.

    1. Open control panel > Hardware & Sound.
    2. Click on Mouse.
    3. In mouse properties, click on pointer option tab.
    4. Decrease the motion of the mouse and check if it works fine.

    Change mouse settings

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-mouse-settings

If it doesn’t help, download the latest mouse software from the manufacturer’s website and install it which should fix the problem.

Hope the information helps. Please post back and let us know.
