    Hi,

Which sound card is installed on the computer?

I would suggest you to check in the device manager if the sound card is listed there and it has any exclamation mark.

Try updating the drivers for sound card and check if it works, here is the link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

If the drivers are not listed in Windows updates, then go to manufacturer’s website download the latest drivers which are compatible with windows7 and install.

If nothing happens even after updating the drivers, then try uninstalling the sound card drivers from device manager and install the latest drivers from manufacturer’s website, here are the steps:

    1.      Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and

Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator

password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    2.      In Device Manager, locate the device, and then double-click the device name.

    3.      Click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall Driver and follow the instructions.

Also try running audio troubleshooter and check if it helps, here are the steps:

Open the Playing Audio troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio playback.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Please respond and let us know the status of the issue.

I have the same. The troubleshooter do not find any problem, but the logo appears with a X and doesn't work. Sometimes work, but after 5 minutes off again.

According to Windows update, all the drivers are up to date but the Sound system does not recognize the speaker system which is connected via USB. The Device Manager recognizes the speaker system and even gives me the manufacturer's name. Running Troubleshooting from the Control Panel says that no sound device is connected.

The manufacturer, Altec Lansing,  says that this is a Plug and Play device and only the PC hardware drivers are needed.
