That is a very old application.  Although Win7 has worked fine for many older apps for myself, some are just not compatible.  I would suggest visiting the developers forum and see if anyone else has found a work a round, or consider purchasing the latest version.

Hi.  I just got the 3D Home Architect Deluxe 3.0 program to work on my new Windows 7 64-bit laptop, thanks to Iago Fredo's awesome instructions and a little bit of guesswork.  For anyone still not sure what to do, I'll adapt his instructions to explain how I got it to work.

Step 1: First, put the CD in the disk drive.

Then, go to Start -> Computer and right click on the program to open it (mine was in the F drive).  Don't bother trying to install it since nothing will happen if you click install and you may receive an error message along the lines of the program not being compatible with a 32-bit or 64-bit OS.

Next, search the disk drive for "D3DRM" and copy the files Iago Fredo mentions:

    • D3DRM.DLL
    • D3DRM8F.DLL
    • D3DRM16F.DLL
    • D3DRM24F.DLL
    • D3DRM32F.DLL

Then place them in C:\Windows\system (Start -> Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> Windows -> system).  For good measure, I also placed the files in C:\Windows\System32.

Step 2: [This is where my instructions will differ from Iago Fredo's.] Even in compatibility mode, Home Architect would not install for me either.  However, you can work around this problem.  Right click to open the program in the disk drive again.

Then find the folder labelled "PROGRAM".  Copy this folder.

Next, go to C:\Program Files (x86) (Start -> Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> Program Files (x86)) and paste the folder.

Now click on 3DHOMEV3.EXE inside the PROGRAM folder, and 3D Home Architect Deluxe 3.0 should run just as it did in the past!

Note: Although Home Architect will not show up under recently installed programs or even the program files as seen from the start menu, you can always access it from the .exe file in the PROGRAM folder or create a shortcut to get to it more easily.

Hope all of this works as well for you as it did for me!  Good luck.

I got the same problem too.  I like using 3D Home Archtect 3.0 because its so easy to use and I'm experienced with it so when it didn't work on my new laptop with Win7 I was not happy :(

I finally figured it out.  There are 2 steps to take to get it to work:

    1. Change the Settings of the Program:
    • Start
    • Control Panel
    • Programs
    • Run programs made for previous versions of Windows
    • select "Next", "Not Listed", "Next", "Browse" and locate 3DHOMEV3.EXE on your HD.
    • select "Open", "Next", "Try recommended settings", it will pick the recommended settings, select "Next
    1. Copy missing dll's:
    • Search for the following files in the 3D Home Architect Installation CD and copy them to C:\Windows\System
    • D3DRM.DLL
    • D3DRM8F.DLL
    • D3DRM16F.DLL
    • D3DRM24F.DLL
    • D3DRM32F.DLL

Hopefully this will help you too!  Good luck :)
