Insufficient privileges: you must be administrator when you run this application for the first time.

I loaded a game on my laptop that I have played before. After loading it I hit the desktop icon and a small box opens up with this in it.

"Insufficient privileges: you must be administrator when you run this application for the first time." What do I need to do now?

If this condition persists, you will need to modify the game's desktop icon yo run under elevated privileges. To do this, right click the icon and select Properties. Select the Compatibilty tab. Now check the Run as an administrator checkbox. Before clicking OK, determine if you need to set this elevated privilege for other users.

If you have other users that will be using the game, at the bottom click the Change settings for all users button. A new dialogue will popup with changes for all users. Check the Run as an administrator checkbox. You can now OK, OK out of the Properties dialogue.

Right click the desktop icon and select Run as administrator.

You may be asked for the Administrator's password.

    belar192,

I can think of a couple of potential issues that could still be causing problems. First, were the games installed 'As an administrator' by right clicking the setup program and selecting that option?

Second, what operating systems were the games intended for? If their respective highest rating was XP or Vista, you need to return to the

compatibility area and 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' <alternate operating system>. This would be esspecially true with a 64 bit machine.

Third, the only remaining option I can see would be to run in 'XP Mode' or within a 'Virtual PC' environment, but first I would

definitely lurk through the support forums for the speciific games to find homespun remedies, e.g. solutions recommended by the users of the games themselves rather than the generic across-the-board solutions found here. Actually, as resourceful and forthgiving as most gamers are, I would probably try that first.

I am having the same problems.  I just upgraded to 7 recently, and now I've gotten my games installed, and several of them are not working.  I have checked the Run as an administrator box, set it for all users.    Right clicked it, and run it as an administrator again.  This does not solve the problem.   It still tells me I have to have administrator rights.  Any other suggestions?
