I have checked event viewer and I have been getting a lot of these mesages.  I have also had lots of problems where my computer stops responding and then after I force a reboot my hdd is not getting recognised so I have to take the cables out and plug them in again.  I know which hard drive that is being reffered to.

Does the mean my hdd has a problem and I should get it replaced at the shop I bought it from.  It is quite new.

****Any ideas what the cause is and how to fix it?.

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this means that the hard drive is failing. It doesn't matter that it is new. In fact, if hardware is going to fail it will usually do so quite soon or go for years. You cannot fix a bad hard drive; you just replace it. So back up your data NOW.

I already answered you. Your hard drive is failing. The drive controller is faulty. There is no reason not to believe the error message. This is hardware, not software. Chkdsk is a software solution. You can test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website or use Seagate's SeaTools For DOS. You will create a bootable CD with the file you download. You will need third-party burning software to do this such as Roxio, Nero, or the free ImgBurn. Burn as an image, not as data.

    http://www.imgburn.com

    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/seatooldreg

    http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=201271 (how-to)

Boot with the CD you made and do a thorough test of the drive. If it fails any physical tests, replace it. If the hardware diagnostic is unable to run because of the faulty drive controller, then make a note of that so you can give the information when you exercise your warranty.

I's the standard Microsoft response: Blame the hardware.  This is may be often true, but I have seen this particular error on Windows 7 pro, Windows 7 ult, and Windows 7 home on new hardware from Toshiba, Dell and HP.  I have seen it even when replacing the drive with a new drive. Most likely, there is a software compatibility issue (bad code) with the intel class of controllers common in each of these machines.   This error appears in the OEM installation of Windows 7 on some gateway computers.

While this is replying to a 2010 posting, probably for Windows XP, the same problem exists on Windows 10.  The answer is inadequate on several grounds.  The first is that if this problem is serious enough to cause considering replacement of the hard drive, then it should not be buried in the event log and only flagged as warning.  Second, I believe that on my system repeated logging of this error has preceded system lockups which is a code defect.  Many disk operating systems have the ability to assign an alternate track or sector upon write failure and even if there is no provision for this function, then an error message should appear on the screen and provision should be made for relocation of the page or other data set and marking the sector or sectors causing the problem unusable and and unavailable for assignment.  Further all operations of chkdsk should produce  a report rather than just quit saying no errors found.

    What about this error?

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.

I have a warranty for my HDD. However I get charged if there is no problem with the hard drive.

Should I go and try to redeem my warranty?

    Thanks
