The DVD files you need for editing in Movie Maker

are the .VOB files. You'll find them in the VIDEO_TS

folder. Copy them to a folder on your hard drive.

    (drag/drop....copy/paste)

First...just try renaming one of the .VOB files to

.MPG or .AVI and see if it will import into Movie Maker.

If the import works...drag the file to the timeline and

Save/Publish (File / Save Movie File) it in the .wmv

or .avi format. Then...re-import the new .wmv movie

    clip for editing purposes.

(Also...you may be able to play the renamed files in

Windows Media Player...this will give you a chance

to identify the VOB file that contains the content

    you wish to edit)

If that fails...rename the file back to .VOB and try

converting the file to .wmv using the following free

    converter:

    SUPER © Simplified

    Universal Player Encoder & Renderer

    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER

(the mirror download site is faster)

(FWIW...it's always a good practice to create a

System Restore point before installing new software)

    After installing SUPER...open the program...

you will see two small circles in the upper left

corner of the screen...tick the TOP circle.

Now...drag/drop your .VOB files into the Active field.

    Output Container...choose...wmv

Video Scale Size / No Change

    Left click the Encode button.

    Choose: Simple Profile / OK...

    Wait......Wait some more.....

(FWIW..I have better luck with video if I do not

try to multi-task while a file is being converted)

When the file is converted...you should find it in...

Program Files / eRightSoft / Super / OutPut.

Or...you can type...Ctrl+O...to open the Save

Window and choose a save folder.

    Good luck...

Remember it’s illegal rip DVD for any business purposesTo my understanding, you need a 3rd party DVD ripper which you have to purchase.

You rip the DVD into viseo file in either WMV or Avi format, then you import the video file into Windows Movie Maker. Then you can edit.

Since there is this legality/ copywright issue, I shall stop at this point. You can google for further information on your own.

    =============================================

The law actually covers breaking (circumventing) the copy protection.

    See the following links:

Is It Legal to Copy a DVD?

    http://money.usnews.com/money/business-economy/technology/articles/2009/09/30/is-it-legal-to-copy-a-dvd.html

    Digital Millennium Copyright Act

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act

That why I suggested 'copying' the files from the DVD to the

hard drive...if the DVD has copy protection you cannot 'copy'.
