WLAN Autoconfig service randomly stops

Hi, I'm having a bit of an odd problem.

I have an Edimax EW-7711UAn USB wireless adapter, and am running Windows 7 x64.

Completely randomly (as far as I can tell) my wireless connection will drop, and the transparent Aero effects will stop at exactly the same time. In services.msc "WLAN Autoconfig" is then shown as stopped. By restarting it I can regain my wireless with no problems, and the windows revert to the full Aero transparency a few minutes later.

The problem has persisted through multiple reformats and reinstalls, and for different wireless networks, so I guess it must be a hardware issue, but the latest drivers for the adapter make no difference :(

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what could be causing this problem, and hopefully how to solve it?

Thanks

Chris

    Hi,

I would suggest you to install the latest chipset drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

    Step 1:

I would suggest you to disable IPV6 and then check whether you are able to connect to the USB wireless adapter. Follow the steps mentioned in the article given below.

How to disable certain Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) components in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852

    Step 2:

Download the latest drivers for the adapter from the manufacturer’s website and install it on the system. Download the drivers from the link mentioned below.

    http://www.edimax.com/en/support\_detail.php?pd\_id=277&pl1\_id=1&pl2\_id=44

    Step 3:

Check Event Viewer as soon as the WLAN connection is stopped in order to know which application is causing this issue. Follow the steps mentioned in the article given below to open Event viewer.

    Open Event Viewer

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-Event-Viewer

    Step 4:

I would suggest you to perform a clean boot and check where the you are able to stay connected to the Network. Follow steps mentioned in the link given below.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After you have finished installing, follow step 7 to boot the computer in normal startup.

I am having the same issue.  Started a couple of days ago.  I figured out that I can go into control panel / Administrative Tools and services - find the WLAN AutoConfig right click and start the service.  If it says Running try clicking on refresh then right click and start.  This will bring my wireless connection back for a few minutes then I have to go through the process all over again.  It is frustrating.  Any ideas?

I am having the same issues with Windows 10. I installed it a couple of weeks ago and I didn't have this problem until about 2 days ago. I checked that the WLAN AutoConfig is set to 'Automatic' and I haven't been able to find anything in the event log as it doesn't tell me what is causing it to terminate: "The WLAN AutoConfig service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 10 time(s).". It is frustrating

    same issue here

NOT a problem until latest windows 10 update....

    now

internet connection lost and windows keeps looking for a cat5 cable connection....

wants restart of router = why; as all the other cpu's are still connected wirelessly...

(BTW; router restarts ineffective and waste of time...ugh...so much for troubleshooter solutions....)

why as before update all working just fine, thank you...

why; maybe I should go back to apple....ugh...

    BTW

services.msc = WLAN = set to start automatically.....reset ineffective...well, effective until next stop...

something changed during MS update of Win10 and now that service stops periodically = many times in a couple of hours so far and I expect it to continue...

after stoping the WLAN (wireless services) Win10 then asks for a wired connection...ugh...
