Does WICU work in WIN7 64bit? I did a System Recovery and have dead entries in the Add/Remove Program list that do not repond to the uninstall click. These entries were for programs that were uninstalled previous to doing the restore.

    IMPORTANT:

The Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility (MSICU2.exe) has been retired because it could damage some of the files on the computer. The tool has been replaced with a new Install and Uninstall Fix it, you can download and run the tool from here:

    Hi Gnugs,

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. If you have an earlier version installed on your computer, we recommend that you download and install this latest version.

You can use the utility to remove installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

When you use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, you can perform the following functions:

    • Select one or more programs that were installed by Windows Installer from the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box.

To do this, select the programs that you want in the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box. After you make this selection, the utility removes only Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those programs.

    • Remove all Windows Installer information associated with the selected programs. This includes the entries for the programs in the Add Or Remove

Programs item in Control Panel. Be aware that only the Installer information for that particular program is removed, not the files.

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not perform the following functions:

    • Remove Windows Installer

    • Remove files of any programs that are installed by Windows Installer, such as Microsoft Office 2003

    Hope this information is helpful.

    Hi Umesh,

as Jeff mentioned above the link above does not mention the cleanup utility so I can't even download it. Am i missing something here? Because all I see is an article about removing office, nothing about the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. I require it to remove the windows live essentials beta which I can't remove remove normally.

    Thanks,

    Robert

    Hi Robert,

    1. What exactly happens when you try to uninstall windows live essentials beta?

    2. Do you get any error messages?

You are not missing anything. The article which jeff has mentioned had link to windows cleanup utility and also some information about how to use it to uninstall Microsoft Office. You may use it to uninstall any program which uses windows installer.

Please answer the above questions and provide us more information about the issue.

    Hi

Like Jeff I am having problems with the Adobe Air installation.  It was working fine on my computer before I went on holiday.  When I came back, a website obviously needing the Air component wouldn't load.  Got an error message saying that Air installation was corrupt.

It doesn't appear on the Add/Remove programs list.

I too went to the Adobe website and the link there directs you to the WICU tool for Microsoft Office??? Why?  I just want to cleanup Air and reinstall it.

Did go through registry (yes I did back it up first) and removed some keys, also the directories which are scattered everywhere.  This let me at least start the installation but it's now saying that I need admin rights, which I have.

    Hi,

I have problems with IE8 add-ons (silverlight plugin) and I'm trying to remove the sl plugin. I got the following error:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753. The arguments are: XAPAuthenticodeSIPDLL, ,

    === Logging stopped: 2010.07.20.  15:15:00 ===

    I'm using Win7 x64.

I can't find the cleanup utility.

How can I uninstall and reinstall the silverlight 4 plugin?

    Thanks,

    L
