Occasionally getting double letters when typing (suddenly)

Here in the last week or two, I've started experiencing a problem where during the normal course of typing I'll get double (and rarely even triple) letters.  When this happens, it's almost exclusively when I use the "e" key, though others do demonstrate the problem as well.  At first I believed I probably had a keyboard that was going bad on me, but soon afterward I noticed that I experience the same problem both at home and work.  Both are Windows 7 machines and both have identical keyboards (Filco Majestouch).  It's also curious that if I just sit and type "e" or alternate between like "t" and "e" for hundreds of characters, this doesn't appear to happen.  It *only* occurs when typing real text.

Note that prior to two weeks ago (for maybe six months since I got these keyboards), this was not a problem that had occurred.  It is a sudden issue, effects two different machines, and both in the same precise way (predominantly double "e" characters).  About the only thing I can think of is perhaps a Windows Update having changed something, so I'd like to get some outside input.  It makes sense given the two platforms having the same issue starting at most days apart.

    Hi AMD Avenger,

Does the issue occur on a particular application?

Follow these steps and check if the issue persists.

    Step 1:

I'd suggest you boot your machine in safe mode and check if the issue persists on both your Windows 7 machines.

    Step 2:

Put both machines on a clean boot state and check if the issue persists.

Note: Follow step 7 to restart the computer as normal.

Try this: Go to Control Panel | Keyboard, and adjust the sliders on

the Speed tab. My guess is that that will fix it for you.

Thank you for your help, but this particular issue isn't manifesting itself as a short repeat delay.  I'll get 2-3 characters the instant the key is pressed, not a varying number of repeats after a short delay.  If I press and hold a key, it does begin to repeat at a predictable duration greatly exceeding how long a button is normally depressed.

I also forgot to mention that the duplicate character might show up after another key has already been pressed and shown up.  When typing "ret" for instance, I am nearly as likely to get "rete" as "reet".  On my keyboard, if I press and hold "e" but press another key before the repeat delay, the "e" press doesn't start to repeat.  As such, it doesn't appear that I'm simply holding down the key too long.
