Harddisk Error!: The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.

HI Everybody,

Hope some one can help me with this.  Every 30 to 40 minutes, Event Viewer logs the following

The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.

When I do a an Error Check (checkdisk?) on my 3 hard drives I get "No Problems we're found on this disk" .

How can I tell which drive is generating the error and why can't Windows 7 Error Checking find a problem?

Clues:

Can something else be causing this?  I'm getting some other erros like this one from Outlook: "Outlook Search has encountered an error and is temporarily disabling indexing for store." and this one from Acrobat: "Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Designer 8.2\FormDesigner.exe".Error in manifest or policy file"

Also, my Samsung printer I think caches to a virtual disk and I'm using Mozy backup which creates a sort of Virtual Disk that looks like a local drive.

Finally, is there a better way to diagnose this problem?

I have posted the full log for the Disk Error below.  Thanks in advance.

Greg

This link should assist you in identifying the problem disk, even though it was written for Windows 2000:

How to Distinguish a Physical Disk Device from an Event Message

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/159865

About your Outlook error message: the command ScanPST.exe in the Office11 or Office12 folder might fix the problem.

You need to download and run the diagnostic program that your hard disk manufacturer has on his web site.

In my case DR1 was an external drive with a bad block, unplugged it and my problems went away.

    Hi Pegasus,

Thanks for the response.  You know, I have run Western Digital  diagnostics on all my 3x Western Digital drives and they all pass.  Is Physical Disk 1 the same as DR1?  As mentioned before, I also have a virtual disks in the Mozy backup; could this be it?

Finally, I'm getting this Outlook error:

Windows (3084) Windows: The database page read from the file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Windows.edb" at offset 36765696 (0x0000000002310000) (database page 1121 (0x461)) for 32768 (0x00008000) bytes failed verification due to a page checksum mismatch.  The expected checksum was [50d2af2d86f77022:096ef6910673322f:82437dbce7d35aeb:bd8942766f1a85da] and the actual checksum was [50c7af389488df64:096ef6910673322f:82437dbce7d35aeb:ce5c31a30eb05949].  The read operation will fail with error -1018 (0xfffffc06).  If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup.  This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.

Does this provide a clue?  Should I just assume that that my drive is about to fail?  If so, which one?!

    Thanks,

    Greg
