Hello

I am using HP Compaq615 Notebook with a windows 7 Ultimate 64x genuine software. The machine was working fine but 2 days back my DVDRAM stopped working and giving a device eror due to corrupt driver. I ran the windows troubleshooter and the online troubleshooter says the best driver for my device is already installed. I uninstalled the device and rebotted but still my device is not detected by system and gives the same eror "driver file corrupted please reinstall". Can anyone help me in resolving the problem or getting a new driver for HP DVDRAM GT20L ATA? My notebook model # is VC289EA#ACB. Many thanks / Saqib

Hi Saqib,

Did you check if the device is getting detected in the Device Manager?

1.    Click on Start; in the start search type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

2.    Check if the DVD RAM is getting detected. If yes, check if it has a yellow exclamation mark in front of it.

3.    If the DVD RAM has a yellow exclamation mark, then expand the DVD RAM drive and right click on HP DVDRAM GT20L ATA and click on update driver.

4.    It may get a window “How do you want to search for the drivers”. Choose the first option “Search automatically for updated driver software”.

If updating the driver software doesn’t work, then I would suggest you to re-install the chipset/motherboard drivers. You can download the drivers for your HP Compaq515 notebook from the link below.

Hope this information is helpful

Try following the steps for Windows Vista, which should also work for Windows 7, in the following MS KB article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

These steps, to remove the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values, if they exist, at the named registry key may help.

Create a System Restore Point beforehand and restart the computer afterward.

    Hi Saqib Shaikh,

You may check if you can provide us with the error message for the device from device manager. You may refer to the below steps-

    1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In Device Manager, locate the device and then right-click the device name and go to properties.
    3. Now under the general tab check the device status. Let us know the status if the device. Also you may inform any error code stated with the status.

Also you can try to roll back your drivers to the previous version of installed driver software. Use the below mentioned link and perform the rollback for the driver and check if this resolves the issue-

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Restore-a-driver-to-its-previous-version

    Hope this helps.
