I keep losing my Display Calibration settings

Hello folks! I'm hoping someone will have an answer to this problem I'm having with "Display Calibration" that's rapidly becoming very annoying. :(

I just bought a SONY-VAIO laptop model# VGN-NW330F/S with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition installed. Pentium Core-2 Duo Processor @ 2.2GHz

I noticed that the display colors were a little "off" when compared to my 2 other PCs. I then did a little research and some reading and performed a "Display Calibration" word by word, step by step as instructed... here's a link with an example of the steps I followed:

http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/01/07/windows-7-calibrate-your-display

Now comes the annoying part.... once I calibrate my display and I'm happy with the results for one reason or another, Windows keeps resetting the "display calibration settings" BACK to the original "out of the box" factory settings every time I either open up, close and then re-open a program or if I shut down and then restart my laptop. I've even tried adjusting my display settings from the video card's control panel, but that gets reset too.

Somehow everytime I adjust the way my screen looks by running a "Display Calibration" to something that I'm more comfortable with, the system seems to reset my settings back to the factory display settings.

Does anybody know why this keeps happening??? All I want is to be able to set my own display settings and have them STAY that way when I turn my laptop on. :(

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Many thanks in advanced!

To stop the display resetting to original settings on startup, thus saving your desired gamma, do the following:-

    start > run > msconfig > startup > uncheck igfxpers.exe

I just found this out today, after weeks of calibrating every time I start up my laptop! :)

I'm having exactly the same problem on a different system so I think we can definitely rule out drivers. Calibrate then reboot and the Gamma settings are lost.

    • Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    • Dell XPS 14
    • Nvidia GeForce GT 420M.

     OS and drivers fully updated.

    Have you tried the following:-

To stop the display resetting to original settings on startup, thus saving your desired gamma, do the following:-

      start > run > msconfig > startup > uncheck   igfxpers.exe

... because it worked for me a year back, and having somehow reverting itself back to the original settings again, this fix has worked for me on my Dell again, and is still set the way I want it after numerous reboots.

I found the solution for my problem, Dell XPS 14, Windows 7 Ultimate, Nvidia GeForce GT 420M.

On this system the intel onboard graphics is used by default to save power. The Nvidia card automatically switches on when needed for extra graphics.

The solution was to calibrate the display using the Intel Graphics and Media control panel application: I stepped through the built in windows wizard at  the side to display the graphics images used for performing the calibration but I  actually changed and saved the settings in the Intel Graphics control panel.

At log on up I can see the previously too bright settings flash up very briefly and then the Intel settings take over providing the result I wanted.

GIven that the Intel graphics settings take over like this, it's  not surprising that the settings I previously made in Windows appeared to get lost. It would appear therefore that the fault is that Windows and the Intel graphics app do not collaborate properly. Maybe others are seeing issues for the same reason.

msbrown51 , thanks for the link... I think I've been on that link before and tried out the suggestion(s) on that page but was not able to resolve the issue. The person who posted it, talks about creating a "display profile" but does not go into detail as to how one creates one. ???

Then towards the end of the post, they mention " LOGO Calibration Loader - or whatever yourcalibration loader is - can be removed from the Startup group in the Start Menu" but again does not explain how you do that either. ???

I also think this suggestion or "fix" is geared towards "photography" users.

I will try going through the suggestion on the link you provided once again and see if maybe I missed a step or something. :(

In any case, I really appreciate your help! :)

I had the problem when I would reopen my laptop after hibernation...after 2 weeks of this. I just tried something that seems to work for now!!!!!

Right-click on the desktop, Graphics properties, Color correction, restore defaults, apply.

I have a HP laptop, I had installed some updates that I was prompted from my HP solution center or HP total care advisor... can't remember what exactly. I am running on Windows 7, and that problem happened right after the updates.
