"Error 1311: Source file not found… data1.cab" when installing Adobe Reader 9

Error 1311 Source File not found: C:\Programme Files (x86)Adobe\Reader\Setup Files\BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AD1000000001\Data1.cab![](http://i4.social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/resources/images/trans.gif?cver=2.13.0068.4)

I get this message when I try to install a downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1 or 9.3 file, even though the Source File listed is present and working - in fact I get the message even if I access Adobe Reader Installer through that very source file. The Adobe Reader Installation file is sitting on my desk top where Adobe download parked it when it was itself unable to complete installation after the download, giving me a message that Windows Installer Service could be found and might be because it is not installed properly, even though that is also present and appears to be working normally for all other download applications.  Spent an entire day trying to get it Reader to install without success. I've tried uninstallling all Adobe programmes, re-booting and then reinstalling

  • makes no difference.   I previously had Adobe Reader 9.1 installed and working perfectly, except that whenever I tried to print postage labels from the British post office their website insisted on offering me Adobe Reader downloads every time because it wasn't detecting that mysystem already had it on.  On their advice I tried to delete and reinstall it to remove that problem.  Boy do I now regret listening to them. I've spent hours searching for a solution on Google and in MS help, but can't find anything exactly like my problem.  Can someone please help?   Is there a repair patch for this?

    Hi,

Let’s try to download Adobe Reader manually and install to check if it helps. But first, let`s uninstall any traces of previous installations.

**Step 1:**Use the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility to remove the software. Download it from the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/290301

    a)      Once you click on the link,  save it to the desktop.

    b)      After the download is complete, click  Run and install the program.

    c)      After the installation, click  Start and type Windows Install Clean up

    d)      Click on  Windows Install Clean-up and select the files related to the software and remove them from the computer.

**Step 2:**Now download Adobe Reader from the following link to install.
