Sharing my Win 7 PC with Apple Airport Extreme and wireless network.

I cannot get my Windows 7 PC to recognize my Apple Airport extreme router.  It connects fine via ethernet cable that runs from the router, but I can't find any way to connect to the router to join the network or share files from the PC.  I'm lost!

    Hi jpyciak2002,

    a. What are the steps that you have tried to connect to the network?

**Step 1:**The first step for you to connect to the Airport Extreme router would be to install the AirPort Utility from the CD included with AirPort Extreme.

Refer this link which gives information on how you would be able to do this:

    http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/setup.html

You may also refer these manuals for information to setup and connect the router to the Windows machine.

    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExtreme\_802.11n\_UserGuide.pdf

    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/airportextremebasestationsetupguide.pdf

**Step 2:**To share the files on a Windows 7 computer you need to turn on the file and printer sharing option.

Follow the steps given below to do the same.

To turn on network discovery, file and printer sharing, and public folder sharing in Windows 7

    1.     Open Advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click Change advanced sharing settings.

    2.     Click the chevron to expand the Home or Work network profile.

    3.     Select the options to turn on network discovery and file sharing.

    4.     Under Public folder sharing, do one of the following:

o    To share your Public folders so that people on other computers on the network can open files in them but can't create or change files, click Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open files.

o    To share your Public folders so that people on other computers on the network can open files in them and also create or change files, click Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change, and create files.

Click Save changes. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    What is network discovery?

You need the Apple Airport utility for Windows to actually log into the device

and set up the wireless network. Setup the network name and WPA2 security and

write down the passphrase you select. Then the PC should see the network.

Specify home network. when prompted by windows. Can you get that far?
