    Hi,

    ·        What do you mean by ‘the other one mouse is working in the laptop’? Did you get a new mouse or just asking whether you have to exchange the mouse?

    ·        Was this mouse working in your laptop before?

    ·        What happens when you plug-in the USB mouse? Do you get an error message?

    ·        Who is the manufacturer of the mouse and what is the model?

    Step 1:

I would suggest you to plug the USB mouse in another USB slot and check whether the mouse is working.

    Step 2:

Check whether the mouse is compatible with Windows 7. Check the link mentioned below.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

    Step 3:

Check in the manufacturer’s website for the latest drivers and download and install the driver on the system.

For further reference check the article mentioned below.

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

Check the article mentioned below to know how to install the USB device.

    Install a USB device

    Step 4:

It might be that the USB drivers would have gone corrupt. I would suggest you to uninstall the drivers from the device manager and let windows reinstall it when the system starts up. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    a.       Click on Start menu and type device manger in the start search box and press Enter.

    b.      Click on the USB (Universal serial bus controllers) to expand the list and delete the drivers that are installed on the system.

    c.       Close device manager and restart the computer.

    d.      Let windows install the drivers for the USB ports automatically.

    e.      Once you have reinstalled the drivers, connect the camera and check whether you are able to connect to the system or not.

I battled this monkey for several weeks (with it getting consistently worse), using every tweak and fix suggested here and on various forums, but for digging into the registry.  Simply not comfortable with making registry changes.

Then last night...the miracle fix.  I took an 8-yr-old Dell optical mouse from an old desktop which I had laying around and plugged it into the same USB port which I've been regularly using for my newer mouse.  Now keep in mind that my problem had all along been with a USB optical mouse.  Just a newer one.

When I plugged the old mouse in, the OS detected it as new hardware and downloaded the driver for "USB Optical Mouse".  It had previously simply been using the generic "HID Mouse" driver to run the mouse.

Problem gone.  Not a single stutter nor a freeze all day.  First time in weeks my mouse has gone for more than a few minutes without either spontaneously stuttering or freezing up.

So stoked!  I am surprised that this was the fix for me, and that I've found nothing leading down this path elsewhere.  I'm assuming that for those lacking another mouse to force the driver change as I did, manually uninstalling the HID mouse driver and replacing it with the "USB Optical Mouse" driver may do the trick.

    Good luck!

I am using a microsoft sidewinder X5 gaming mouse, and a logitech extreme Pro joystick, Yet I cannot load either with the game Dead Space 2, so effectivly microsoft are telling me to bin the game, or use the keyboard.
