Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter not connecting to ANY network

Hey everyone. I have a brand new Sony VAIO Laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor and a Gateway LT2104u netbook with an Intel Atom N450 processor. Both units are brand new (as in less than a week old) and no matter what I do, I cannot connect to any wireless network whatsoever. Both adapters can see the network, but upon trying to connect, prompts me to start Network Diagnostics because it cannot connect. I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on the Gateway and the adapter is still having issues whether I dual boot into Windows 7 or Linux. The Sony currently has Home Premium 64-bit installed and the Gateway netbook has Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix which is 32-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sony even replaced the wireless adapter in my brand new unit and it's still not working!

Hi,

Check if the wireless adapter is compatible with Windows7, here is the link to check compatibility:

Atheros has not released the drivers for Windows7 yet, refer this link:

http://www.atheros.cz/

As a work around try installing the drivers in Windows vista compatibility mode and check if it helps, here is the link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

If this doesn’t help, then you have to contact the manufacturer for more information.

    I just bought a HP Biscotti that has the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter.

    I can connect to the wireless network but the wireless seems low in places where my other laptops can receive the signal without problem. Is there a way to enhance the reception from within the laptop wireless adapter?

    This is the same model Wireless Adapter I have and I am having pretty much the same problem.  Not sure what to do :(
