Is there a way to rotate a video in Windows Media Player? It was recorded with the digital camera held sideways.

    Hello Davidwwd,

You will not be able to rotate a Video with Media Player. However, you have this option to rotate a Video in Windows Live Movie Maker. If you have not installed Windows Live Movie Maker, you can follow the below link and install Movie Maker:

    http://windowslive.com/Desktop/MovieMaker

Once you download and install Windows Live Movie Maker, you can follow the below steps to rotate and save the Video:

You can rotate video clips in Windows Movie Maker by doing the following:

    1. Import the video clip into Windows Movie Maker.
    2. Drag the imported video clip and drop it onto the timeline.
    3. On the Tools menu, click Video Effects.
    4. To rotate the video clip to the right, drag the Rotate 90 video effect and drop it onto the movie on the timeline.

    -or-

To rotate the video clip to the left, drag the Rotate 270 video effect and drop it onto the movie on the timeline.

    1. On the File menu, click Save Movie File and follow the instructions in the Save Movie Wizard.

The instructions above do not relate well to what I see on my Win 7 PC, but did help regardless.

See picture below of how I did it, worth a thousand words :) innit.

    Hopefully I help someone.

Windows Live Movie Maker is no longer available for download (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13785). Are there any alternatives to the method above that use native Windows features or applications? I'd prefer not to risk the security vulnerabilities from downloading the other "free" alternatives from 3rd parties I don't recognize.

When I rotate the video in MM 2012 the audio track is out of sync.  How can this be remedied?

    ================================================

More than likely Movie Maker has a conflict with the

    ormat of the video clip.

The following freeware can rotate the video and also

it can convert it to the WMV format if you prefer to

    rotate it in Movie Maker.

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System

Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Freemake Free Video Converter (freeware)

    http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

    (Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 )

(***Carefully read *all* the install screens...there

may be some items you want to uncheck***)

When you have Freemake installed...open Freemake

and drag/drop your video files on the main screen.

Or...Left click the Video button and Browse to the

folder your video files are saved in.

Select (highlight) the files you wish to import into

Freemake and left click the "Open" button.

When your video files are imported into Freemake,

Left click the WMV icon at the bottom of the screen.

The "WMV Output Parameters" screen will open.

Choose a "Save To" folder so you can find the

    converted files.

Left click the "Convert" button and wait for the files

    to be converted.
