Display drivers keep crashing, error says XP but OS is Windows 7

Hi all, I get a repeating error whenever I try to play a certain game (Maplestory) running two instances. Whenever the game gets too intense, for example if I go into the market with a ton of people there, or there are a lot of people fighting in the same map, my game window will freeze (usually with blocks of colors/gradients that take up 1/3 of the window), the laptop screen will flicker black, and then everything will restore, with a little error notification on the bottom right.

The error says, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

However, my laptop is running Windows 7 32 bit, with recent graphics drivers that I manually installed for Windows 7, definitely not Windows XP.

Another note is that I was able to play Maplestory just fine without any similar error when I was using Vista 32x.

Here's some more info about my computer:

    Thanks for the reply, Cari.

Since my first post I've looked around for other people's solutions to this problem, and one of the solutions was to use an older driver, which I am currently testing. So far, it seems to have stopped my problem.

However, if the problem arises again, I'll try your solution.

I have a HP laptop running windows 7 and get the same error message . For me this happens when I boot up and windows is loading. "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

It then goes on to run ok. This has happened 3 -4 times before. There is a pregnant pause or hangup as the laptop is booting.  I do not recall getting the error message once the system is up and running.

You may be having a DirectX conflict.... Windows 7 comes with DirectX version 11 (although your graphics chipset only supports version 10) but the game uses version 9.  I'd install version 9 fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en and it will happily run alongside version 11 so you don't need to do anything to the version you already have, just complement it with the extra one.

See if that makes it a happier experience for you.
