Are you using a laptop with a touchpad?  Chances are good that you are accidentally touching the touchpad while typing and that is moving the cursor.  Go to Start / Control Panel / Mouse and see if there are any controls for adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad or for turning off the touchpad while typing.  Go to your manufacturer's web site and download the latest device drivers, firmware and software for you touchpad and your mouse (if you also have a mouse - you may need to go the the mouse's manufacturer for those drivers if it didn't come with the system).  The new upgrades may provide options that didn't exist before like the ones I mentioned.

This happened to me as well and I bought a separate mouse and disabled the touchpad and the problem went away - but it had me going for a while until I finally figured it out by typing differently (with my hands raised higher so the palms didn't touch and had no problems).  Even if this isn't the problem, updating the drivers, firmware, and/or software may on its own resolve the problem.

If none of the above works, we'll either need to run a full software troubleshooting set of procedures (post back and I'll reply with them) or the touchpad or mouse is defective and needs to be replaced.  You can discuss the latter with the computer manufacturer when you talk to them (if you talk to them).

I hope this helps.  If you have any questions along the way, post back and I'll do my best to answer them.

    Good luck!

    Hello all,

I am typing this (for the first time in months), without my cursor jumping around to another line and/or jumping off the page I am typing on.  I experimented with everything I read and then found (on my own), to do the following:

Go to CONTROL PANEL, and to HARDWARE or KEYBOARD, and slide the 'blinking cursor' to the farthest left position (actually turning the blinking cursor OFF).  Then it works because there is NO darn blinking cursor to jump anywhere, because it does not move!

I got to thinking that if we all have a pointer/mouse, we PUT it where we want it on a window, page, box, document, etc. ... so why do we need it to blink anyhow?  Back when we all had DOS and a black or blue screen, we needed to see the blinking cursor to find where we were.

Anyhow, this really works! It was driving me crazy as when I type, I can type up to and more than 100 WPM and I could think I was typing everything so fast and look at my page and find partial words and one line! UGH. I was so mad.

Happy typing all ... and warm regards ... me ;-)

Thanks for posting this solution to such an annoying problem. Our cursor has been jumping all over the place for months, but I just figured it was something we couldn't fix and decided I'd have to live with it. Such a relief to be able to type and click with my mouse without having something weird happen. Thanks again.

I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION, THOUGH NOT A "FIX"!  AFTER YOU PLACE THE CURSOR WHERE YOU WANT TO TYPE, MOVE IT DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN.  TAKES AN EXTRA SECOND, BUT SURE IS WORTH IT.  MAKES KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS EVEN MORE VALUABLE - LEAVE THAT DARN CURSOR AT THE BOTTOM UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED IT.

LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU.  BEST THING I'VE FOUND SO FAR.

AND BY THE WAY, THE CURSOR JUMPED EVEN IF I TYPED WITH ONE FINGER AND WRISTS HELD HIGH ABOVE THE KEYBOARD.  SO NO, *NO* ABSOLUTELY NO IT IS NOT THAT WE ARE ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHING THE TOUCHPAD.  WAY TO BLAME THE VICTIM...!
