View and manage files in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

I guess I'll just post this and see what happens.

What am I trying to accomplish?

View the complete contents of my temporary internet files.

Why?

Because when I view a website, I want to capture image and video files.

Can't you just save the page offline, or save each file separately?

What a serious pain in the butt. I am used to using the temporary internet file and windows explorer to sort and copy the files I want.

Now using Vista sp2 and IE8, I can no longer do this.

Yes, if I turn off all security, and unhide system files I can view the folders, but do we need to talk about how that defeats security?

Can’t you just go to Tools > Internet Options > Browser history, Settings > View files?

Yes, but not all of the files appear there, and no one knows why. Or has explained why yet.

Trust me, I understand the security ramifications, that’s why I use anti-virus (clamwin), anti-spyware (spybot) software, and run my security setting a medium high level.

I am used to saving a shortcut on my desktop, which opens my TIF folder so that I may manage ALL of the images (jpeg, gif), FLV’s and what not that I come across. I don’t thing that it is unreasonable to ask.

This used too be a great feature, no third party software required, but now it seems the choice is none, or a hassle. I also think that having to show hidden and system file to view the TIF is a hazard.

OK I'll add my gripe as well as request:

When viewing a video online , that is NOT streaming, Windows 7 obviously must be storing the video file somewhere on the hard disk, since when i go to REPLAY " the video (a long one , like an hour) I can move to any spot in the file, while I'm online in the site. OK, so when I try to FIND the actual video file, without closing the window to the site, using the same method as in Windows XP, i.e. go to Internet Options, Browsing History, View Files, I now CANNOT find the tempory video files! In XP it would show ALL temporary internet files including LARGE tempoorary video files. Apparently now in Windows 7 it does not. So where oh where are these files??? They are on my PC I know , for reason stated above, and if it's on my PC I want to know where ALL files are being stored!! ... WHY IS WINDOWS 7 HIDING THEM FROM ME!!!!

OK so anyone find out the "trick" to finding them???

Anyone know why Windows 7 is now hiding them from us? IS it some "copyright" for our own protection deal????

    Thanks to all replies!

I found a couple options to this find your files. Thanks to http://www.winvistaclub.com/f11.html.

    1. Disable Protected Mode:

all files (from now one will) end up in TIF as they did before. To do this you double click the bottom of your browser where it says protected mode. It will open Internet options and you are able to disable this feature. It requires a restart of the browser and poses a security risk. I would only do it just before going to a trusted website.

    1. Content.IE5 folder

Show system protected files using folder options. go to your TIF as normal. Single click on the path and type \low\Content.IE5

You will see various folders one of which will have your files.

Make sure you have unchecked "Hide protected operating system files" and enabled "show hidden files, folders and drives".

    1. IE options, Browsing history, Settings: "View Files".
    2. Righclick "Temporary Internet Files", properties.
    3. Choose "previous versions" tab, review which date you want to dig into -> Open.

Now you can search / find the files in question.

Let me third this post. All I can find in TIF are icons that appear in the address bar along with various other useless files. Where are the Jpegs and the Videos?

I am using an OEM version of Windows 7.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I too have a need to access the Temporary Internet Files folders...to view versions of prototype, scriptalicious, mootools, etc.

I am using Windows 7 with IE 8 and would like to view my cached files, graphics, javascript files, etc.

All of the places I have been able to search out suggest that the folder resides in:

C:/users/%USERname%/appData/local/microsoft/windows/TemporaryInternetFiles/ BUT mine is blank...as well as all of the other permutations of "temporary internet files" that can be seen with windows explorer.

Where are the temp internet files located and why make it so hard to see them?  In winxp with IE8 you could move the folder to a location of your choice...Win7 allows this but there are only icon files.

Does anyone have the exact path of all of the temporary internet files?
