Hi,

·         Did you make any software or hardware changes on your computer prior to this issue?

·         As you have mentioned ‘today logged on wow’, did you refer to World of WarCraft game?

·        Does the Alt key stop functioning after you played the game?

Let’s try these steps and check if it helps.

Step 1

You may check if the ALT key is functioning correctly in on-screen keyboard. It will help us to verify if there is any issue with the keyboard.

Open On-Screen Keyboard by following these steps.

a. Clicking the ‘Start’ button,

b. Click on ‘All Programs’.

c. Click on ‘Accessories’.

d. Click on ‘Ease of Access’, and then click on ‘On-Screen Keyboard’.

Step 2

Make sure that the sticky keys are turned off.

a. Click on the ‘Start**’** button.

b. Click on ‘Control Panel’.

c. Click on ‘Ease of Access’.

d. Click on ‘Ease of Access Center’.

e. Click on Change how your keyboard works’.

f. Uncheck the option “Turn on Sticky Keys’.

g. Click on 'Apply' & 'OK'.

Step 3

a. You may also perform clean boot which will start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts.

The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article: How to troubleshootproblem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows7:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.

b. Then check if the ALT keys are working properly.

Hope the information helps. Please post back and let us know.

Try a System Restore to a Date before the problem started:

Restore Point:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/

Do System Restore in Safe Mode, if unable to do it in Normal Mode.

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc

http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system\_restore.htm

Read the above for a very good Graphical display of how to go back more than 5 days in System Restore Points by ticking the correct Box.

Cheers.

Just hit your "Num Lock" key on the top right side of your keyboard (above 7 Home key).
