What is the purpose for TMM (Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager) in the Task Scheduler?

I need some information regarding the purpose and use of a Task Scheduler application named TMM, or Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager, please.  Judging by the name of this task, I would assume that it is necessary for this application to be running when more than one monitor is hooked up to a computer.  Am I correct in this assumption?

Since I have only one computer, and there will never be more than one monitor hooked up to my computer, do I really need to have the Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager running all of the time?  If this application does not need to be running in my computer, is it okay for TMM to be disabled?

This may be interesting to read. Here is a reply from Vista Discussion forum. In contrast to what you and I thought, this reply suggested otherwise.

    Thanks t-4-2 for explaining this.

The TMM task was the source of my notebook waking up from hibernation on its own (it wasn't  Media Center/mcupdate_scheduled".

I didn't disable the task since I am on a mobile PC and plan on attaching external monitor(s) at one point.  To get rid of the annoying computer waking up on its own, I just unchecked the "Wake the computer to run this task".

Path to task in Task scheduler: Microsoft/Windows/Mobile PC.

I found the offending culprit by expanding every folder in Task Schedule and then looking at each task's conditions tab.

t-4-2, I'm sorry for putting the wrong name on my reply to your answer.   By the way, I like the name you chose, because it is very catchy, and it is also an easy name to remember.  Many thanks for the information you sent to me, because it was very helpful.

    Dear Marilyn,

Thank you so much for sending me the hyperlinks with information on TMM and for disabling TMM.  I couldn't find very much helpful information at the first hyperlink, but when I clicked on the second hyperlink (Enable or Disable TMM), I found the information I needed.  It said that TMM provides a 2-3 second delay at logon for mobile PC's, to give them time to search for other monitors which might be attached.  It also said that if I did not have a mobile PC, or if I didn't have multiple monitors attached to a desktop PC, it was perfectly safe to disable TMM.

That told me all I needed to know.  I don't have a mobile PC, and I don't have more than one monitor attached to my desktop PC, so it will be safe for me to disable the TMM program.  I wrote down the necessary instructions, and ater I finish reading e-mails, I'll disable TMM, because the computer has to be restarted after TMM is disabled, .to make the change

Many thanks for the helpful information!
