Simpletech backup drive not recognized

When I click on the back-up Simpletech drive (plugged into a USB port) from My Computer, the drive is not accessible.  It used to be.  If I insert a memory chip into my cardreader (hooked to USB port) it too is not recognized.  What is going on?

    I have the same problem:

I own a SimpleTech external hard disk(SignatureMini 320GB) and I've used it before in Windows 7.

but recently when I plug it to my laptop (Windows 7), It's not listed in My Computer.

there's no problem with the hard (I've tested it on other computers) and also I can read data via softwares like Paragorn Hard disk Manager, so the drive is accessible even in Windows 7!

There isn't any "USB Device not recognized" error, but 7 doesn't show it's partition!

    any solution?

I installed windows 7 on my laptop and the system will not now recognize my simpletech external hard drive. Is there a supplemental driver required?

I have the same problem as yours in Windows 7. It shows up under External hardware but i cannot get it to open, in order to view the files. Did you find any solutions to this problem.. If you did, would really appreciate if you could let me know. Unpluggin from the power supply didnt work for me either.

My old XP motherboard died. My 2TB SimpleTech external drive worked fine with it. Plugged it into the new Windows 7 machine and nothing. I got a driver error. When I looked at hardware, the computer saw something but couldn't open it. I contacted SimpleTech (Hitachi). They were less than helpful saying there were no dirvers compatible with Windows 7. Apparently Microsoft isn't helpful either. Now I have a very expensive doorstop.  :-(
