Microsoft Keyboard Elite for Bluetooth model 1002 connects, but nothing works

I have a Microsoft Keyboard Elite for Bluetooth model 1002 that I have had for a couple of years. It worked great on XP. I have upgrade to a computer running Windows 7 64 bit. Placed fresh batteries in my keyboard and went to install it. The keyboard is discovered, the pass code is accepted, and for a brief instant the icon in Devices and Printers is fully displayed. It quickly "greys out" and none of the keys work. I have downloaded the current drivers, but no change. Any ideas???????

I just got the same keyboard (elite for bluetooth from microsoft, model 1002).  It connects to Win7 64.   I just went through the motions, and it connected.  Did take me a couple tries as I was not typing in the passcode fast enough from the looks of it.

Steps: Put batteries in keyboard > click the "Make/Break Connection" button on bottom of keyboard > search for "bluetooth" in Windows and select "add a Bluetooth device".  When Windows connects to keyboard, select it, and choose option for Windows to make pairing code for you > type in the code on the 10-key on the Elite keyboard and hit "enter".  Give it a moment....I have it few minutes.  Microsoft downloaded/installed software drivers etc.  All works great!

    Hope this helps.

    Hi ed,

I suggest temporarily disabling your anti-virus to see if it resovles the issue.

You may have to uninstall it to fully disable it, provided you have the means to reinstall it after the troubleshooting.

Do you have any other Bluetooth devices connected to this computer?

Make sure the keyboard is very close to the receiver to test for interference.

Check for old batteries as well.

    Hi edj924,

Follow these steps and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

Try removing and then reinstalling the keyboard. Here's how:

First, connect a wired keyboard or mouse to your computer. Then, if you have Bluetooth wireless technology installed on your computer, follow these steps:

    a. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Bluetooth Devices.

    b. Select the keyboard that's not working, and then click Remove.

    c. Click Add, press the reset button on the bottom of the keyboard or mouse, select the My device is set up and ready to be found check box, and then click Next.

    d. If the device is not found, repeat the previous step. When the device is found, select it, and then click Next.

    e. Exchange passkeys with the keyboard. Follow the rest of the instructions in the wizard.

    Step 2:

Follow all the methods given in the below article and check if it helps resolve the issue.
