microsoft. it is soooo hard to get where you want to go on there site.

i wish they still had the chat where you just enter a few things, and for free, it instantly opens an im window to chat with microsoft.

well i have a usb bt dongle, and when i right click and click send a file, it gives an error

Windows was unable to transfer some files. An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.

With windows xp, i plug it in, and it installes 2 drivers, "microsoft bluetooth enumerator" and "generic bluetooth radio"

in windows 7, it installs the same 2 drivers

i pair the device from the phone, and it did not work. so then i searched from the computer, and it pairs, but file transfer dont work

it works in xp totally fine, and with the same drivers! just different os versions.

i went to device manager, and click update driver, and it sais the latest is installed

btw, it is a generic bt radio, and it was $10 do9ller micro dongle.

it has no brand name.

but it works in windows xp? but not 7?

windows xp and windows 7 are duel boot, so it is the same hardware, b/c windows xp and windows 7 is on same hardware

if i use vmware virtual machine, i can transfer files

microsoft sucks... i mean exept xp. it is old, but it is the best windows version out there, runnin on minimum 16 mb ram, and 400 mhz cpu... i luv xp, no errors anymore

Hi,

Check if the same device works fine on a different computer with Windows 7 installed. Also try sending files from the phone to the PC and check what happens.

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following link.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

You may try the steps given below and check if that helps to get the Bluetooth dongle to work.

a)      Click Start, and then click Run.

b)       Type regedit, and then click OK.

c)      Locate and then click the following registry sub-key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{e0cbf06c-cd8b-4647-bb8a-263b43f0f974}

d)      Right-Click on the folder, click Delete.

e)      Exit and reboot

Now try finding your device again and send file. It should work.

Hope this information is helpful.

Had this problem with Windows 10.

I opened Windows "Settings" from the start menu and typed in Bluetooth to open the app..

When trying to Send music onto a phone, the error occured "An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used".

Solution that worked for me was from Salam Roben Singh on Youtube:

    • Click Windows start button
    • Type 'Command Prompt'
    • Right click the 'Command Prompt', click 'Run as Administrator', and click 'Yes' in 'User account control' window
    • Type 'netsh winsock reset' and press Enter
    • Restart windows

I was then able to send files using bluetooth

But I couldn't recieve files from any phone

I haven't tried Amrita M's answer but if you get a "Error while deleting key" message, it might be worth trying running 'regedit' as administrator by

    • Click windows start button
    • type 'regedit'
    • Right click 'regedit', click 'Run as Administrator', and click 'Yes' in 'User account control' window
