No signal found by monitor for HDMI or DVI. Monitor finds VGA signal just fine.

Here is the problem. I used to get a signal from HDMI cable or the DVi cable on my old monitor.  Then the signal was there sometimes and then it wasn't.  Now my new monitor does not find a signal for either HDMI or DVI.  It does find the signal for the VGA and that works.  Any ideas???  Myself and quite a few others dont have any idea on how to fix this>

    Hello, billiardsnut

Are you using an adapter for DVI or HDMI?

Assuming you are using a straight DVI->DVI or HDMI->HDMI cable, try shutting down the computer and turning off the monitor, connect the DV or HDMI cable, then turn both back on.

Some video cards will not dynamically change on its own, doing the above steps will usually set the appropriate output.

Additionally, since you mention on your old monitor it would be intermittent, it could possibly be the digital (DVI/HDMI) port on your video card is failing.

Thank you very much as this worked for me.  I am wondering though if the problem may have something to do with Windows 10 recent updates as this is when the problem started for me?  Anyway, thanks for the help!

I have a similar problem except (1) I am using a VGA->HDMI converter (HDMI at laptop) and (2) the monitor is a HP Compaq LE1902x.  The monitor is failing to detect the output

    Thanks for your help!

The monitor is an HP 2310.

When I plug in either cable the monitor scans for signals from either one.

After it tries this it cant find a signal and says that it is going in a sleep mode.

Do you think it is a monitor issue?  I wonder if it is a software issue or maybe something with windows vista.

Any further assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi billiardsnut,

    ·        What is the make and model of the monitor?

    ·        What message does the monitor display when you connect HDMI or DVI cable to the port?

Try connecting set of different cable in to HDMI port or DVI port and check for the results.
