Configuring the deadzone of an analog stick...why can't it be done?

You would think with the kind of money Microsoft charges for their operating system, they'd be able to afford to buy themselves a clue, but no such luck. A whole lot of fuss has been made as if Microsoft is going to support gaming in a big way with Windows 7, but it's all just posturing and empty promises on their part.

What's my problem with it? Well, would it be too much trouble to allow people to configure the deadzones on their analog sticks? Sure, you can calibrate the center and the range of motion...but where the ____ is the option to configure the deadzone? It seems game developers and Microsoft alike believe that analog sticks are perfect tools of engineering and do not have any play whatsoever in the stick. Games generally do not offer deadzone calibration and neither does the built-in calibration software of Windows 7. Oh, what's that you say, I need to replace my controller because it's obviously defective? WRONG! My controller is brand new. Sure, it may be a PS2 controller, and Sony isn't necessarily known for high-quality, but I digress. Would it be too much to ask to just release some kind of deadzone calibration tool? You guys released one long ago for the likes of Win98 and such, but it seems Microsoft just doesn't want to support their products anymore. Too busy thinking about Win8, couldn't care less about the one they already have out now. After all, you already got my money, and there's nothing to be gained by putting out free software.

I've searched and I've searched in vain looking for some kind of something here. So many games languishing on my hard drive, virtually unplayable, all because the controls are ____ without some kind of deadzone adjustment. Either too much deadzone (which is more the fault of the developer) or not enough (which can be helped on an OS level) -- causing the object of my control to move about without me even touching the controller. It's horrible when your screen is spinning around wildly or your car is drifting like it has a serious alignment/balancing problem.

As far as I can tell, there is no third-party solution. Much as I'd love to just download a reliable piece of software instead of counting on Microsoft to do something about it (Yeah, right!), the best you can get is mere key remapping software, which does absolutely nothing for analog unless you like trading your analog input for a mere digital one -- not really the solution I'm looking for. No third-party software I've found can do anything to override what is built into DirectX, therefore it really imperative that Microsoft themselves do something about this glaring issue.

I guess this isn't so much a question as it is a plea for sanity on the part of Microsoft. Maybe someone out there does know a third-party solution that can help me, but I'm not counting on it. I would rather contact Microsoft directly about this issue, but I just can't navigate this horrible, bloated monster of a website to figure out how (not that they'd even take my issue serious anyway). Thanks for reading this rant, I guess.

Well there are tons of third party programs but none of them works for Windows 7 properly e.g "ControlMK", "dxtweak", "xpadder", "xbcd" , I also would like to know if MS plans to release a proper driver within the next century which makes all the deadzone related stuff and the chatpad work.

But of course nobody seems to be responsible xD

I'd appreciate if the mods wouldn't mark a reply as an answer in my thread, especially one that wasn't the least bit helpful...I'll be the judge of whether it answered my dilemma or not.

That said, rohhbert, good for you that you found some drivers. Would you mind sharing what drivers it is you found? Otherwise, stop hijacking my thread with your nonsense. Thanks.

Somehow while continuing my struggle to find a way to calibrate deadzones, I found myself right back in this thread after following a search engine link. Over a year later, and still no solution from Micro$oft. Oddly enough, with a program such as DXTweak, you could set deadzones back in Win98/Me. However, Microcrap removed such features from 2000 on. However from what I'm reading, it seems Xbox 360 controller drivers have a deadzone setting. Hmm...sounds like a ploy for MS to sell more of their own products. After all, why put in essential features that could work with any controller for free when you can just force people to buy your own ****?

    Still searching...

EDIT: This thread keeps showing up as Answered even though I unmarked the unhelpful post that was mysteriously marked as the answer. THIS ISSUE IS NOT IN THE LEAST BIT ANSWERED.

Ah ha! The 360 controller. Now we are talking a MS failing. Sorry there rohhbert I did not notice you were not the original poster before, and did not know you were trying to configure a 360 controller.  There is another long thread relating to people trying to get the 360 wheel to configure fully, but still, this is not a Win 7 problem, it is Monopoly$oft failing miserably to support their hardware in Windows. The ironic part of this is the way Monopoly$oft have take over the PC games with GFWL and have the 360 controller as the default in most games. Not being a 360 owner this really give me the.....

Hopefully Razer releases its Onza for the PC, with right set deadzones and drivers which work properly, so that I can throw my default 360 controller right into the trashcan :)
