Can't Find HH.EXE

Anonymous

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. At bootup I am getting the error: "Can't Find hh.exe." This just started after a Windows Update.

I can't find anything on how to find or reinstall this file. Can you point in the right direction?

Thanks,

    Hi

The hh.exe file is the executable that displayed the older .chm compiled HTML help files.

hh.exe is no longer included in Windows 7.

If you have a program that includes any of the older .chm format help files, there is an update that you can download and install that will open these files.

The following KB article has a description of the issue and the download links for the update file.

I cannot open Help files that require the Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) program

Can anyone advise how one goes about coaxing the 32 bit version of HH.EXE to run and not the 64 bit version?

    No Ronnie,

hh.exe is still art of Windows 7. The Winhlp32.exe is missing and must be installed with the linked update.

Please start the command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

    sfc.exe /scannow

Is it able to find and repair broken files? Is the hh.exe restored?

    best regards

    André
