Problems enabling ACPI 2.0 Support?

I'm using Win 7 x64 and the MB is an Asus P5QL-E, BIOS Version/Date is American Megatrends Inc 0611, 20/08/2008. I am having some issue with the Power Options, most recently it wouldn't wake up and after trying all normal things I would up having to unplug the machine to force a reboot ( something I do not recommend or ever care to do)

Other answers to questions on the forums indicate that ACPI 2.0 support is needed for Win7.

In the BIOS ACPI 2.0 Support is disabled by default. Some people on other non-Microsoft forums have said that the ACPI 2.0 Support has to be enabled at the time of installation of the OS or an host of terrible things will happen if you try to enable it later. My questions are: does enabling ACPI 2.0 Support after the installation of the OS lead to problems booting up? Should I enable it? (I'm no computer genius, but it's not a big deal for me to go into the BIOS to enable the ACPI 2.0)

Cheers,

Mrs Duckworth

Thank-you for the suggestion. A young man at work, who has a considerable background in computers, also said to try enabling the ACPI 2.0 Support. So sometime this week, I'll give it a whirl. I'll  let you know how I made out.

I have to admit that Asus EZ Flash seems to look to be no more difficult than flashing the firmware on one of my cameras. And again I thank-you for your advice. However I'm concerned that current BIOS is by American Megatrends Inc and not Asus so I don't know how well it would work trying to update an AMI Bios with an Asus BIOS update. Not very well I would think.

Here's what AMI says about upgrades: "Why can't AMI do a BIOS port and provide me with an update to my motherboard BIOS? One of the main reason, which is essentially mentioned above, is because of the hardware. We would need to know the exact specifications of every chip used on your motherboard (including their revisions). On top of that, we would require time on multiple pieces of hardware to properly debug and test it. In terms of man hours/cost required, it would cost you a lot more than the cost of your computer when it was brand new." So, I'm out of luck when it comes to updating the BIOS for my MB.

But right from the beginning of my thread upgrading the BIOS was never the question.

I asked what would happen if I enabled "ACPI 2.0 Support" with the OS already installed? I mean would it likely work or would there likely be problems booting up? Bear in mind that "ACPI APIC Support" (a default setting) was already enabled when the OS was installed.

So this is what I want to know: What would happen is I enabled "ACPI 2.0 Support" on my computer?

    Regards,

    Mrs Duckworth

Read in the mainboard manual how to update the BIOS.

    Hi Andre,

    Thank-you for your advice.

Updating the BIOS is something that I would consider to be a little out of my league. I just can't take a chance on inadvertently disabling the computer because of inexperience.

So, for now the computer will have to be either on or off until I can find someone to advise me on BIOS updating technique and procedure.

    Regards,

    Mrs Duckworth

Please update the BIOS to a newer version:

    P5QL-E BIOS v1104 (2009/09/25)

Fix "gogobox" may not work when"C-state" is enable in BIOS option.

Does it solve your power saving issue?

    André
