I have Windows 7 Ultimate operating system.  I have both Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center on my HP computer.  Do I need both programs?  Which would be better to synch music with a Zune player?  What is the difference between those two programs?

    Hi,

Windows Media Player is a playback application where in you can play music, videos and sync devices.

This didn't really answer the question...why do two programs do the same thing? Why have both? I do not understand.

Kevin: it's not possible to remove WMP but to keep WMC. WMC relies heavily on WMP, e.g. for media playback. Both programs also share the same media library. If you look at Task Manager while using WMC, you will even see that WMP is always running in the background.

WMC automaticaly runs when I boot my laptop up ,It also appears that it has taken over several of my programs .

WMC is also not in my control panel otherwise I would delete it

I am hindered from running any of my virus programs by WMC when I try to run the virus programs WMC is what pops up

So WMC must be the program of choice for a new set-up... having  options like LIVE Internet TV available to use later would be more efficient regardless of UI. Offering both without offering a REASON for choosing the less functional WMP still begs the question, "do I need both"?
