I am trying to import a video into Windows Movie Maker. I have a computer that is Windows XP and I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD650. When I press the import button it says:

The file C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\VIDEO1.mpg\VIDEO_TS.mpg.BUP is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.

Can someone help me?

Hi, that's because TS is not supported by Windows Movie Maker. You need a video converter to convert TS file into WMV, which compatible with WMM.

My favorite video converter is Sothink free video converter, it converts video flawlessly and free of charge. You could have a try.

I had this problem with VOB files. You need to convert the file to one that Windows Movie Make recognizes. Download (or search your pc for) Windows Any Video Converter. This will convert the files so that it can be recognized. I have been changing mine to WMV files. They are a bit smaller and work just fine.

he is talking about .BUP files !  not .VOB files. read with your eyes instead of your ____.

and why 50miles long answer? its so hard to just tell him this? ".BUP is a DVD file. u need to convert it into a media file like AVI, search google for a converter, try terms like ; ".BUP to AVI"

much smaller answer ;) and more understanding friendly.this looks more like a solution. your text looks more like a book nobody wants to read. lol

PS: HE IS NOT IMPORTING FROM A DVD! If u open ur eyes for once, u can see clearly the file is located on his windows desktop, not a DVD.

his camera records in .BUP format. so he just needs to convert the .BUP file.

as i see you are trying to import

    VIDEO_TS.mpg.BUP

so its a BUP file. Windows Movie maker does not support .BUP files.

the file you are able to import are files such as : .mpg / .avi / .wmv / mp3 / jpg /and so on . . .

.BUP is a DVD file. It is not a Windows media file.  u cannot import a DVD to MovieMaker.

Your handycam probably makes DVD files. try to find a software that lets you convert the .BUP file into .AVI

search google for ".BUP to .AVI"

You cannot import directly into Movie Maker 2.1 from a DVD.

Maybe the following articles will offer some ideas:

Movie Maker 2 - Importing Video from Discs

    http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-Discs.html

Movie Maker 2 - Importing MPEG Files

    http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-MPEG2.html

    More info...

The DVD files you need for editing in Movie Maker

are the .VOB files. You'll find them in the VIDEO_TS

folder. Copy them to a folder on your hard drive.

First...just try renaming one of the .VOB files to

.MPG and see if it will import into Movie Maker.

If the import works...drag the file to the timeline and

Save/Publish it in the .wmv or .avi format. Then...

re-import the new movie clip for editing purposes.

If that fails...rename the file back to .VOB and try

converting the file to .wmv using the following

    free converter:

    SUPER © Simplified

    Universal Player Encoder & Renderer

    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER

(the mirror download site is faster)

(FWIW...it's always a good practice to create a

System Restore point before installing new software)

    After installing SUPER...open the program...

you will see two small circles in the upper left

corner of the screen...tick the TOP circle.

Now...drag/drop your .VOB files into the Active field.

    Output Container...choose...wmv

Video Scale Size / No Change

    Left click the Encode button.

    Choose: Simple Profile / OK...

    Wait...

(FWIW..I have better luck with video if I do not

try to multi-task while a file is being converted)

When the file is converted...you should find it in...

Program Files / eRightSoft / Super / OutPut.

Or...you can type...Ctrl+O...to open the Save

Window and choose a save folder.

    Good luck...

    GOOD LUCK.....
