Adobe Acrobat is NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows Vista... it crashes any browser or the OS when I attempt to download or open any PDF... is there a patch?

When I try to open a PDF in IE 7 or Firefox 3.6, or just on the desktop, I get a panel that says,

"Program Compatibility Assistant"

"This program has known compatibility issues - Check online to see if solutions are available from the Microsoft website. If solutions are found, Windows will automatically display a website that lists step you can take."

"Program: Acrobat Reader 7. Publisher: Adobe,Location: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"

"Acrobat Reader 7.* has a know compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Window, contact Adobe."

"Check for solutions online    -   Run program   -   Cancel "

Whether I click any of the 3 buttons listed above, it crashes the browser, or the whole OS crashes.

Does anyone know of a patch for this... Adobe, that I can find, only has updates for Acrobat Reader but they don't say whether or not it is a patch for this Vista incompatibility problem.

I searched Microsoft's knowledge base and this forum and I can not find anything definitive for this issue.

I can't even download a PDF, let alone open and look at one's content.

Any known patches?

Thanks,

numetro

From Adobe FAQ "Acrobat 7.0 and earlier versions do not support Windows Vista. Adobe does not plan to release updates to Acrobat 7.0 and earlier for Windows Vista compatibility. "  You will need to upgrade to Acrobat 9 (or later) to ensure full compatibility with Vista and Win 7.

I have done just that -downloaded Adobe reader XI.

My error message starts from AcroRd32.exe wanting to make changes to the computer, (to which I agree) then my computer comes up

because it it not a supported file type or the file has been damaged for example it was sent as an email attachment and was not properly decoded.

So under my program incompatibility troubleshooting it states AcroRd32 is not compatible, even though I have removed and installed others.

Such as the original Vista Home premium 32 bit or the Windows 7 upgrade (separate 32 bit entry). As well I have right clicked under each program and gone to compatibility settings and changed to allow each option as it were from scratch (Vista premium) compatible to windows 7. Or windows 7 compatibility mode and allowed all permissions.

I'm about to give up and throw it in the fire!
