Windows Virtual PC using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit to get Windows XP Mode

I have installed and removed, installed and removed the Windows XP Mode five times in the last week.  I bought a new computer after my last one crashed a week ago.  I specifically indicated at Best Buy that I needed to be able to use Windows XP so they sold me a computer with Windows 7 Home on it and I purchasd a Windows 7 Professional upgrade.  I did the upgrade and then downloaded the components for the Virtual PC and Windows XP mode.  In an attempt to set up Outlook Express in Windows XP Mode, the computer hung.  I could not unhang it and ended up hibernating and then shutting down in Windows 7.  After re-starting and attempting to go back into Windows XP mode, it was still hung.  I went back to Windows 7 and uninstalled the Windows XP mode--there was no option to remove the Virtual PC.  I re-downloaded and attempted to install again.  As soon as I tried to install another program, it hung again.  I just removed the Windows XP Mode again, downloaded it again and it won't go into Windows XP Mode--says I need to download it.  I am a teacher and need to use some of the XP based programs for my school work.  Help!

You must install it in this order:

Install KB958559 (VirtualPC) first , next the Update KB977206 to remove the VT requirement (if your CPU doesn't support hardware VT) and in the 3rd step install the XPMode VHD (WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe).

Download the XPMode VHD from here:
