I want to add programs to the Startup folder that do not natively have that preference built in [Win7 - Pro].

How, please?

Hi,

To autostart a program that does not have that option in its setup just copy the icon to your

startup folder.

For ALL Users copy to :

"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"

Right Click Start Button - Explorer All Users and navigate to that folder.

For specific Users copy to :

"C:\Users\The User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"

Use Start - Computer   OR  Windows Explorer to navigate to that.

You can put each User's Program in their respective Start Menu program icons in their own

Start Menu Folder and then they will only see their respective personal programs and those

shared across users.

I tried this   but when I click on the   generated shortcut to drag to the Startup folder in the Start > All Programs menu, that menu closes.

As a [[poor] work around, I have pinned the programs that get the most use to the task bar, put the bulk of what gets 'frequent' used on the desktop, and left the rest in the Start menu, which, as designed in W7 is not too valuable to me. This does not, of course, start them with Windows.

Thanks - I go too far back and keep looking for the Start Menu in Docs and Settings.

Easy. Just create a shortcut to the program you want to include. Open

the Start>Programs>Startup folder, right click, and select "Create

shortcut" from the context menu. Browse to the program you want to run.

Edit shortcut name and/or icon, if you want. That's it.

    Try this,

I copied this info from Help and Support,

If you always open the same programs after starting your computer, such as a web browser or an e‑mail program, you might find it convenient to have them start automatically when you startWindows. Programs or shortcuts placed in the Startup folder will run wheneverWindows starts.

    1. Click the Start button , clickAll Programs, right-click the Startup folder, and then clickOpen.
    2. Open the location that contains the item you want to create a shortcut to.
    3. Right-click the item, and then click Create Shortcut. The new shortcut appears in the same location as the original item.
    4. Drag the shortcut into the Startup folder.

The next time you start Windows, the program will run automatically.

    Note

    • You can also make an individual file, such as a word-processing document, open automatically by dragging a shortcut of the file into the Startup folder.
