Hello,

I am having a problem with the Speech Recognition program that came with windows 7. I have done the training and train your computer to better understand you about 6 times, but it still is having trouble. It isnt to bad with commands such as minimize, page up, page down, close that, but when i try to do speech to text and say something, it has never got it right. I say something like "hello my name is" and it comes out with "a LO Mien a new" or "unlikely my phone has" they are two it has just done when i tested. I am speaking in a clear tone but i dont think its ever going to get it right.

Now obviously i know that speach recognition is still very new, but im sure its meant to be better then this.

Thank you for any help you can offer,

Daniel Few

I dont think this has answered my problem. My problem is not with the language settings, they are in UK which is correct, or with correcting words, the problem is, EVERY word or sentance i say comes out wrong on the screen, and if i even try to correct it, it still dosnt do what i say. The problem is what im saying isnt being correctly heard by the speech recognition programme. Like i said, if i say 'hello, my name is' it comes out as 'A lone my name cleared' or 'A know one day' or 'Cleland my name it is', they are just three i have tried, and as you can see, it has come out different each time, but not as 'hello my name is'.

If tyhere is a solution to this problem, it would be great :).

I have posted a new post on this problem that explains more about  the situation, i would greatly appreciate that problem being solved rather then this one as i think it will solve this problem, here is a copy of what i typed.

    To Windows Support Staff,

I am finding It increasingly difficult to use speech recognition. when i go to say something to my computer, it hardly ever understands me. I have been through the 'train your computer to better understand you' about 20 times now, plus i have done the tutorial twice.

One thing that is very annoying, and if i can fix this problem i believe it will solve a lot more, is when i say a word and it gets it wrong, and i say correct 'word', i then say 'spell it' and when i say the letters for example' 'b' 'e' 'c' 'a' 'u' 's' 'e' it comes up with a load of random letters, sometimes none at all, or usually just one or two. I believe that if i am able to use the 'spell it' feature to correct my words, the program will get it right more often as it has done with a couple i have managed to correct.

Another problem i have is speaking numbers. For example, when i say 'show numbers' and it comes up with them all over the screen, i can only usually get a couple to work. 1, 2 and 9 usually work, but any others dont. I have tried over and over again, trying to speak as clearly as possible and in different tones, but it just wont get it.

Why wont i recognise the letters when i speak them? Any Help will be much appreciated,

    Daniel Few

**Hi Daniel Few,**The issue could either be with the Dictation or with the language settings.**Step 1: Language settings:**a. Open Speech Recognition by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking Speech Recognition.

    b. In the left pane, click Advanced speech options.

    c. On the Speech Properties window, select Speech Recognition.

    d. Now look for the language setting.

    Setting speech options:

**Step 2: Correcting Dictation mistakes:**Refer the below and follow the steps outlined to correct dictation mistakes.

    Hi Daniel,

I would suggest you to try creating a new user account and then training the new account from scratch and check if the issue persists. Let us know if the issue occurs in new user account. If not then, you might have to fix the corrupted user account.

    **Create a user account**

    **Fix a corrupted user profile**

Also, make sure that the microphone that you are using is acceptable by your computer. You may try using the sound recorder to check if there is any issue with your microphone. Have a look at the following article link for more information:

    Record audio with Sound Recorder

Why doesn't the computer understand my spoken commands?

Connect a microphone, music player, or other audio device to your computer

****Hope this helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks and Regards, Santosh Y – Microsoft Support
