In determining available disk space on an Acer Laptop, how does GB compare to MB. For instance, a program that I want to install on my laptop requires 100 MB available hard disk space. I have searched everywhere that I can think of for a simple explanation. Please help.  Thank you.

Steve Cochran's reply is true as far as what is written on the box of a hard disk drive or a computer manufacturer's specification. Internally, Windows uses 1KB= 1024bytes, 1MB = 1024KB, 1GB = 1024MB. That's what you'll see on the Computer window.

A kilobyte is a 1000 bytes.  A megabyte is a 1000 kilobytes or a million bytes.   A gigabyte is a 1000 megabytes or a billion bytes and a terabyte is 1000 gigabytes or a trillion bytes.  It gets bigger. <G>

1 GB = 1024 MB and you can do the math from there.

    But why bother ?

Use one of these conversion gadgets :

    http://www.convertunits.com/from/MB/to/GB

Enter a number in either MB box or GB box, and click Convert button.

    http://egret.net/kb__mb.htm

same method. Enter a number in one of the boxes, click the <> under that box, and the conversion is listed.

    Try them.  100 MB  = 0.09766 GB
