I have a similar problem. Mine is an OEM installation of XP Home Edition, so I never had discs. Also I have had to do a restore to factory installation state due to a disc error that could not be recovered, so I may not have paid a lot of attention to installation options that may have been presented to me. I am trying to get to the point where I can enter simplified Chinese in Word 2003. Adding support for this language to the XP installation stalls looking for xjis.nls. Is there no other way to get around this than to try to find someone at IBM/Lenovo to respond to an out of warranty issue?
Unable to install Chinese language on XP computer. Error - xjis.nls is missing"
Original title: xjis.nls missing
Hi,
I have problem setting Windows/internet to display chinese characters.
So I tried to change the regional and language setting, and put a check on 'Install files for East Asia Languages'. Unfortunately my Windows was preinstalled when I bought my laptop so I don't have the windows set up discs. But I can see it is looking for xjis.nls, so I searched the lpatop and that file is missing, I however do have xjis.nlp.
Could anyone advise me how to get this set up working if I don't have the windows discs please?
Thanks a lot.
Jadz

The National language support (.nls) file maybe damaged or missing from your computer. You must get in touch with the computer manufacturer for the disc. You can then copy the
file from the installation disc.
This will be the location of the file:
D:\I386\XJIS.NL_
XJIS.NL_ is the compressed file of xjis.nls
Once you save the files on your computer, you can install your preferred language.
