Original title: IR hardware

I have recently bought a connector for cable and have been trying to set things up so that i can watch and record shows on my computer. I have run into the problem that it says my ir hardware isn't connected. Since i have never even heard of this I'm guessing that there is something else that i need to get in order to finally get this up and running.  Could someone let me know what an IR hardware is, and what i should do? I am really not wanting to go buy something else.

Infrared (IR) hardware allows wireless communication and data transfer between devices by the transmission of infrared light.

In case of Windows Media Center if you have a Set top box,a Media Center compatible remote control and IR devices you can change the tv channels. An infrared remote control cable—also known as anIR blaster—is a small, infrared device you can use to control a cable or satellite set-top box using your Media Center remote. These are generally packaged with Media Center remotes and TV tuners.
