Windows Wireless Service

My Toshiba Laptop cannot connect to the wireless internet. It cannot find any wireless networks. When I try to solve the problem Vista wants to start the Windows Wireless Service. It then says it cannot resolve this problem. A search for solutions suggested that possibly the network discovery was off. I tried to follow the instructions but could not find network discovery. A down arrow listed in the instructions was not present as described. I have checked and determined the Toshiba wireless switch is on. I must assume something turned off my wireless. The LAN cable hookup works but I need wireless daily. Any suggestions? I checked the wireless adapter and it is working.

i have the same problem as the original poster, however when i followed the first step ( WLAN autoconfig instructions) when i changed the start up type to automatic and clicked start i got an error message stating 'Windows  could not start the WLAN autoconfig service on local computer. Error 126: the specified module could not be found.

    What should i do now?

    Thanks

    Hi Louism,

·What is the service pack installed on your computer?

·Did you check the status of wireless service i.e. WLAN AutoConfig in services window?

·Do you've any security software installed on the computer?

    1.    Let's first try to start the wireless service i.e. WLAN AutoConfig service manually. To do this you have to login to the computer as an administrator.

    a.    Click Start, type services.msc and hit enter.

    b.    Locate WLAN AutoConfig service, double click on it to open its properties window.

    c.    Under General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic and click Start button.

    d.    Click Apply and then ok.

    2.    Disable security software or firewall installed on your computer and then try to connect to wireless internet and check the results.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
