How to customize startup programs on Windows 7?

I'm having a small problem about these startup programs, for example, my Nero BackItUp and my VAIO Update always run when the OS starts and they don't have any configuration option to change it and they don't sppear on the start menu startup folder, I've searched about it, but I only found a How-to on Windows Vista, and that method (through Windows Defender) doesn't apply to Windows, because I can't find the "Start up Programs" option.

I really need some help here, almost quarter of my RAM is used if I don't close these programs manually!!!!!

    Try:

    1. Press  Windows Key +  R at the same time (to bring up Run box).
    2. Type  MSConfig into Run box and hit  OK.
    3. Click on Startup tab.
    4. See if you can find the entries you want and untick their boxes. Hit  OK.

NOTE: Do not disable any system or items you are not sure of or your system may not boot/work properly. Creating a System Restore point before doing the above would be prudent.

As it's always been, in most cases, with "well-mannered" applications, it's usually as simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the option to "display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows starts."

Additionally, Look in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Start Up folder, and in the system registry, primarily in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

Additionally, AutoRuns from Sysinternals is a bit more complicated, but it'll provide the same (and much more) information and capabilities:

You can use Autoruns from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902. The link has details on how to use it. A word of caution - enabling/disabling programs and services that automatically start with Windows or your logon session should be done with caution - it has the potential to make your system unstable or unusable - so please use this tool carefully.
