DVD Drive and Hard Drive, Cable Select or Master-Slave Configuration?

Dear Sir or Madame:

I have an NEC DVD drive, Model ND-1300A, that has not been able to recognize CD disks since after Windows XP was installed on the computer in the master position on the data/control cable and a parallel ATA 250-GB hard drive in the slave position. The cable is an 80-pin IDE-UDMA cable. How should I configure the jumpers on the two drives? Should I set them both to "Cable Select" or should I set the DVD drive to "Master" and the hard drive to "Slave"?

                                               Regards,

                                               Peter Dooling

    S Shekhar:

The jumpers on both drives are set to "Cable Select" and the DVD drive at the end, or Master position and the hard drive is at the intermediate, or Slave position on the cable. The DVD drive is thus configured as the Master and the hard drive is configured as the Slave.

                                                                         Regards,

                                                                          Peter Dooling

    Hi,

    1. Could you explain how is the DVD drive setup? Is it set as a slave or master?
    2. Does the Cable Select match that setting? Do you remember how the DVD drive was set up before?

If you have the DVD drive set to master change it to slave and check.  You may also refer to NEC product document for the DVD drive.

    Hope this helps.
