I brought my pc bits down from uni; mobo, ram, cpu, gfx card, and hdd, assembled them in a new case down here.

I turn it on and, 'Disk boot failure'. All the cables are plugged in and i've used different cables, in case one was faulty, same with the psu.

I start up my windows 7 disk to see if i can repair the installation, and it can't find my hard disk. So i plug my drive into another system, and it read's it fine, so it's all there. i try to fix mbr and that didnt help.

i tried another hard drive, which is ide, and it loaded up fine on my machine, yet when i tried a 3rd hard drive, which is sata, same as my original drive, boot failure.

im beginning to think i may have damaged the board's sata connections when disassembling it back at uni. unless anyone has any other ideas? thanks.

    Hi Singular1ty,

    · What is the exact error message that you received?

I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

    1. Change the boot order in the CMOS setup so that Hard Disk is first on the list. Make sure you select the hard drive on which Windows 7 is installed.

Note: For information about how to do this, see the documentation that was included with your computer, or contact your computer manufacturer.

    1. Restart your computer and see whether the problem is resolved.
    2. If the issue still persists run the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to repair startup issues in Windows.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Sandeep

I took the motherboard out and tried it again. Worked perfectly fine. I think one of the standoffs to keep he motherboard up was causing a short circuit around there.

If the drive works fine on another PC, it initially booted, allthough v.slow, you have a hw problem, probably connected with the sata controler

The error is 'Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter'. I went into the bios and, didnt change anything, it then booted 'fine' twice, but was painfully slow, then the 3rd time, disk boot failure.

On this machine, I literally can't even select the windows installation to repair it, I have to use another machine which see's it fine.

    Thanks.
