Can not install Zebra Label Printer - LP2844 - missing USB001 port

Hello,

I have Windows 7 installed on two Dell Optiplex PCs (160 and 780).  I cannot install a Zebra label printer (LP2844) on either PC and the same issue occurs on both.  When I connect USB devices (mouse, keyboard, flash stick) the devices work fine with the standard drivers.  However, for my Zebra label printer (model LP2844), I ran the driver utility program from Zebra's website, chose the LP2844 driver, but it then asked to choose a port.  No matter which port I select, the device never works as desired.  Also, I expected to see a USB option in the port list, but I do not see one, just COMs and LPTs - there is no USB001 or USB002, etc.  This occurs whether the device is on and plugged into any of the USB ports or not plugged in at all.

Also, when I plug in the device, Windows recognizes it and assigns a HID device driver to it.  This has no application that I can use.

Please let me know if more information is needed. Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

    Hi,

Sorry for the late response.  I tested on another Dell laptop and was able to see the USB001 port and successfully print to the Zebra printer.  However, my other Dell's still do not work.

    1. The Troubleshooter detected an issue, and said it automatically fixed the issue.  However, it did not mention what if fixed.  It only asked that I try again.  So I attempted to print a test page, which didn't work.  I also searched for the USB001 port and did not find it listed still.
    2. I tried each LP2844 option on Zebra's website, but each time I try to install the driver, it asks to choose a port, and USB001 is never found.  Installing driver to another port works fine, but this doesn't help me if it's not USB.

    Thanks again for any assistance

    Hi,

**Step 1:**You may run Hardware Troubleshooter that might help us diagnose the issue better.

    a. Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel.

    b. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌

If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation

Access the below link to know more about Hardware Troubleshooter:

    Step 2:

If the above step does not work, I would  suggest to install the driver from the following link and see if it works fine or not

    Hello,

The error that you are getting can be because of the Windows Firewall or any other third party firewall (if installed) blocking the required ports. Follow the steps below and check if it helps. Step 1: I would suggest you to try temporarily disabling the firewall and check if the issue persists, so that we can know if firewall is blocking the required ports. Make sure that you ..

I ended up buying a parallel to USB cable and it worked with the standard driver on the Zebra website. Not I may end up trying you fix Tauheedul, just to see if it will work with a standard USB cable.

Since there is no USB option within the driver, you will need to

    1. Install parallel port
    2. Install serial port
    3. Use a USB to Parallel adapter
    4. Use USB to Serial port adapter.
