Hello, I had a packard bell diamond scanner; I still have the installation disc; on the disc is a file or files related to the Puzzl'em program. I am unable to run the puzzlem  program or install the software from disc and any aid would be greatly appreciated. I suspect that the program is incompatible with windows 7 although i did try to run it in compatibilty mode for other versions.

    Hello welstrung,

If the program is not compatible, then you may try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.

    Use the following steps:

    1)   Right click on the Program

    2)   Click on Properties

    3)   Click on Compatibility tab

    4)   Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.

Refer to the link here: Make older programs run in this version of Windows

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

If you run Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate version, install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx) and execute your software in Windows XP.

If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player (www.vmware.com) or any other 3rd party virtualization software and install a separate copy of Windows XP (either Home Edition or Professional) for that purpose. You can find virtualization software free of charge that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Sincerely,

    Marilyn

Dear Marilyn, your reply is much appreciated. The first option I had already tried (compatibility mode for all versions af windows, in sequence, using the  properties dialog ), with no joy. The second option, that of using the virtualbox program seems the sensible solution. However, having read the technical section pertaining to the instalation and, having no great knowledge of computers, I feel that this solution might prove more of a problem than the one I am trying to resolve.

Incidently I have a licenced disc copy of windows X.P. home edition, plus the additional service pack 2 instalment disc. Is it possible to load the Windows 2 operating system in order to run it in tandom with windows 7? Or would it create a conflict? If it be  possible to run the two operating systems in tandom, would the compatibility issues asociated with windows 7 and older programs be resolved? Furthermore would the addition of X.P. ( Provided that the two systems operate reliably together AND sucsessfully run older software ) slow the computer significantly?

Thank you once again for your help and direction I am looking forward to any reply that you might make.

    Yours. Welstrung

Hello Paalkouk, thank you for your comment. I have tried manual changes in properties; to no avail. I also visited the Mustek suport site ( the scanner driver supplier and Puzzl'em software bundler ) but although there is support for the scanner driver, with respect to windows 7; there is no apparent reference to the Puzzl'em software. The only reference I could find was on the Software informer site.
