I have tried installing Fallout 3 and Oblivion on my computer, both are legal copies and I have played these games previously on my current PC. Now whenever i try to install them i get an error message -5004 : 0x80070002. I have tried going to bethesda's website and their only suggestion was to rename the installshield file. I couldn't figure out how to do that and noticed other users were having the same issue. I then went to this websitehttp://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f59/pls-help-me-setup-error-for-oblivion-132176.html and I followed the list of suggestions that they had. The only thing i couldn't do from that list was reinstalling installshield in my common file folder because it wasn't installed. I tried to go to their website and install it but I couldn't figure it out. Any suggestions?

    Hi,

    ·        How are you trying to install a game- online or through media?

I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

Step 1: To update InstallShield first

     1.Go to:http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q111006&sliceId=1

    1. Download the Update Manager, ignore the section about 'Uninstalling'
    2. Follow the instructions to install the Update Manager, launch it, and then try to update the InstallShield installation package
    3. Afterwards, restart your computer and attempt to install Bethesda product

Step 2: To Completely uninstall Bethesda, try these steps:

     1) Delete everything you can inC:\Windows\Temp

    1. Delete everything you can inC:\Documents and Settings<your profile>\Local Settings\Temp
    2. Delete thefolder C:\program files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime
    3. Explore the Bethesda disc and find the folderDXREDIST. In that folder run DXSETUP.exe (This will start the DirectX setup program. It's important that this step is taken, even if you've got a newer version of DirectX installed. The newer version won't be overwritten but the installer will let Windows know that it's been run and that should stop the Bethesda installer from trying to run the DirectX setup and hanging again,)
    4. Manually runSetup.exe from the disc.

If you still get errors right click on the task bar and choose Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab. Selectctfmon.exe and click "End Process". Close the Task Manager and try installing again.

    Hope this helps,

    Hello,

Thanks for responding, I was starting to wonder if I was going to get a response!

I tried typing the "del C:\program files\Common Files\InstallShield\*.*" I also copied and pasted it but everytime I did i got the message "The system cannot find the specified file"

I also tried to find the installshield folder in my common file folder but it isnt there. Is there a way to download this file? Because i can't seem to find it online...installshield.com is pretty much just a site for people who want to use their software for their business.

    Again, thanks for the advice,
