I have windows vista home basic service pack 2 installed. 32-BIT operating system. Every time I turn my laptop on and also every time I disconnect from the internet (I connect to the internet on a casual basis) I get a message asking me if I want to open or save this file. I can not open or delete it. Ive opened the file location & tried deleting it from there. Iv been able to get full control in its properties security section. I am logged on as administrator but none of this has worked.

Ideas:

  • Programs you are having problems with
  • Error messages
  • Recent changes you made to your computer
  • What you have already tried to fix the problem
Windows for home | Previous Windows versions | Files, folders, and storage

Hi ronnieVron,

  1. Do you remember making any changes to the system recently?

Cmiv2.dll is a part of Windows and you won’t be able to delete this.

If it's appearing on startup or when closing Internet Explorer, then it could be related to any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue. You may try to performing a cleanboot and check.

A clean boot helps to verify ifany third party application services or startup item is causing this issue.

You may refer the following KB article to put the computer in clean boot:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the above KB article to narrow down the exact source.

Also, after resolving the issue, see the section on the clean boot link to how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual.

Hope this information is helpful.
